Batterers’ intervention and prevention program
Anger management program
Services are intended to keep victims of abuse and their children safe, offer them rest and recovery, and supply them with a full continuum of care so that they and their families are free from violence and have supports needed to build a new life.
We provide intervention and prevention programs for batterers, as well as opportunities to learn healthy management of anger and stress.
24-hour crisis line 7 days a week
Our crisis line is often the first number a woman calls when she needs information, senses danger, or has experienced abuse. We urge you to call before the situation is desperate or to dial 911 if an emergency is occurring.
You will receive help and guidance relevant to your circumstances.
Emergency shelter
Our secure facility is a safe haven for you and your children. It is free. It is your home, enabling you to live without violence and make good plans for a bright future. If needed, we can assist you and your children with basic necessities, such as food, toys, clothing, and personal items. We will see that you receive vital medical care and/or legal assistance.
Safety planning
We help you consider what measures may increase your safety and that of your children. A plan allows you to prepare in advance so that if needed, you can act quickly and decisively. We can help you think about best options during a violent incident, what to do if you are preparing to leave, how to stay safe in your own home or at work, what legal restrictions you may utilize, and how to take care of your emotional, as well as physical health.
Support groups
Our groups are facilitated by advocates and/or our licensed professional counselors to provide ways to handle challenges, cope with changes, and for participants to provide emotional and moral support to one another.
Individual counseling
Our licensed professional counselor is part of our full-time staff, giving you access to one-on-one conversations with a trained professional. Counseling may help you better understand your options, consider your goals, and make sound decisions about how best to move forward.
Personal advocacy
Our advocates assist you in securing your rights, remedies, and services from other entities, such as Crime Victim’s Compensation, or intervening with employers and landlords. We also assist with securing benefits for clients and their children.
Crisis counseling
Once you are safe physically, you may find yourself struggling emotionally. Crisis counseling can help you deal with trauma and the multitude of stresses experienced when crisis occurs. Counseling can help you find confidence in your ability to deal with problems and regain your own decision-making capacity.
Children’s services
Children at the Crisis Center can receive age-appropriate counseling to help them overcome the affects of family violence. We provide toys, recreation, educational programs, support groups, and individual behavior therapies in a secure, home-like environment. We offer assistance linking children with other community services as needed.
Information and referral services
Women deserve to know the range of community services available and how to access that assistance. We will work with you to identify your goals and find the supports needed to help you succeed.
Accompaniment through medical and legal processes
Sometimes getting help is easier when you have someone with you who understands your needs and the services most beneficial to you. A staff member and/or a volunteer can provide transportation and assistance as you manage necessary processes for getting strong and staying strong.
Life skills training
Some women appreciate learning valuable skills that enhance their independence and increase confidence. You may want to better understand how to manage your finances or what to include on a resume. You may wonder if it is possible to go back to school or find a better job. We will help equip you for a successful future.
Community Education
We offer presentations by trained staff to inform and educate community, social, church, and professional groups about the dynamics of family violence and sexual assault.
Volunteer Training
Volunteers extend staff capacity and bring added expertise, experience and care to our services. Volunteers select from a variety of options -- in the thrift store, at the Crisis Center, or as community advocates. Volunteers receive important training to ensure that they feel comfortable and confident in their work. Additionally, volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement and respect the policies of the Crisis Center.
The Crisis Center offers additional non-residential programs at another location.
Batterers’ intervention and prevention program
This program provides batterers with educational components designed to intervene in the cycle of violence, power and control. The intent of batterers intervention prevention programs is to end abusive behavior, to stop victim blaming and to deal with domestic violence not as an anger control problem, but one of power and control, and to increase awareness that no one has the right to perpetrate violence on another.
Anger management program
These classes assist participants in learning how to control the stress levels and the reasons behind their anger, while discovering the effects their anger has on the people around them.
